On our last full day in Venice Italy, we tried to cover as many sights and activities we could, from canals, bridges, museums and palazzi visits to carnival costumed people spotting throughout Venice and then drinks at Casanova favorite bar!
We had breakfast at Hotel Canal. We got a table by the window and therefore we had a nice view of one of the typical Venice narrow canals outside.

Below you can also see a picture of Hotel Canal.

Visiting Venice Museums During Carnival
Then after breakfast we headed towards Rialto bridge in order visit some Venice museums. We followed mostly the itinerary you can see on the map on this page, at day 4 itinerary.
Fontego dei Turchi – Natural History Museum
We visited Fontego dei Turchi (Natural History Museum). The entry ticket was included in the price of Museum Pass + Rolling Venice Card, and moreover, the museum was close to our hotel, near the Scalzi Bridge, situated on the Grand Canal’s shore.

The building hosting the museum had a beautiful architecture, a nice patio and there were also some interesting exhibitions inside.
Palazzo Mocenigo – Perfumes and Aristocratic Life
Afterwards, the next museum on our list was Palazzo Mocenigo. This visit was also included in the price of the Museum Pass + Rolling Venice Card. Palazzo Mocenigo is situated between Fontego dei Turchi and Ca’ Pesaro.
The rooms of the palace displayed the aristocratic life of Venice during the 17th and 18th centuries. In addition, mannequins dressed in precious clothes and accessories from that era were exhibited. There were also a series of rooms dedicated to perfumes.
Ca’ Rezzonico Museum – 18th Century Italy – Experiencing Venice Carnival Costumes
We then moved ahead to the next museum. So, again we took vaporetto No. 1, passed by Ca’ Foscari university and we finally got off at Ca’ Rezzonico stop.

We visited Ca’ Rezzonico Museum, it took around an hour. The entrance was also included in the price of Museum Pass + Rolling Venice Card.
The palace definitely illustrates all the characteristics of Venice’s 18th-century life. Furthermore, in 2005, it was used as the filming location for the Casanova movie starring Heath Ledger. On the 3rd floor there are exposed masks, dolls, puppets, costumes and also a chemistry laboratory.
The palace interior was astonishing, so we managed to take lots of pictures. Additionally, from the windows, I caught some nice views.

Afternoon Walk Through Dorsoduro and Santa Croce
Afterwards, we strolled on Fondamenta Rezzonico, then we saw Ponte dei Pugni.

Then we decided to have lunch and walk back to the hotel, through the streets of Santa Croce sestiere. From Ponte dei Pugni we went North on Rio Tera Canal, and then turned left in front of Polizia locale Dorsoduro and we eventually arrived in Campo Santa Margherita.
Lunch at Campo Santa Margherita
Campo Santa Margherita square, because is close to Ca’ Foscari University, offers plenty of cheap food options for students.
Students and other young people frequently visit this square, and you can find street food available until late at night.

Because we were hungry we grabbed a bite at Marina Kebab in Calle del Forno, in the covered passage in the West side of the square. Then we got to our hotel room and had a nap.
Evening Vaporetto Ride and San Giorgio Views
Afterwards we boarded vaporetto No. 2 form the beginning of the line in Piazzale Roma. The itinerary begun through Canal de Santa Chiara, surrounded Dorsoduro sestiere, reached Giudecca island and finally reached Isola di San Giorgio Maggiore. From the island you can get beautiful panoramic views of San Marco and take beautiful pictures.

Venice Carnival Italy at Night
We got off on Riva degli Schiavoni and we met again some costumed people.

Strolling Through Piazza San Marco
It was our the last evening in St. Mark’s square, so we strolled around and took some more pictures of the piazza and the costumed people.

Exploring Shops and Venetian Souvenirs
Then we slowly directed towards Rialto area, passing through streets full of shops and searching for a place to have dinner on our way to the hotel.
From Piazza San Marco we followed the yellow Accademia arrows, turned left on Calle Larga XXII Marzo, arrived in Campo Santo Stefano, and then turned left towards South, towards the Grand Canal and arrived at the Accademia Bridge.
On our way we passed by expensive designer stores and also nicely decorated souvenirs and stationery shops.

Besides the Venetian masks, stationery can make some good souvenirs worth shopping: postcards, travel journals, wax seal kits, seals, and also stamps – with Venetian symbols like the Lion of San Marco or the sun with a man face.

Dinner Near Rialto Bridge – Cantina Do Mori
We finally got to Rialto, crossed the bridge towards the market and searched for a place serving the famous traditional Venetian cicchetti.

We managed to find Cantina do Mori just before closing time.
This place exists since 1462 and is the oldest bar in Venice. It if famous because Casanova visited it often. A glass of wine was between 2.5 – 4 euros, and the cicchetti around the same price.
Day 5 – Farewell to Venice Carnival and Italy
We had breakfast, packed our luggage and then we took a little stroll around the neighborhood.

Then we checked out the hotel at 10.30 am. We left early because we were not very sure what time the buses were leaving for Treviso. Our plane was taking off at 3.00 pm and the bus trip would take around 70 minutes or more. So we went early to Piazzale Roma and took the ATVO express bus to Treviso airport.
